Cannabis Workshop

This half day training will provide an introduction to Cannabis, its prevalence, risks, current trends and legal development The training will be useful to any groups, organisations, companies or clubs who wish to: Develop a working knowledge of cannabis related issues. Develop approaches to cannabis use with clients that based on harm reduction principles.

Course Duration: 10am to 1pm

Number of Places Available: 7

Who Should Attend?
Any professional or volunteer who comes into contact with clients whose lives are being affected by its consumption may benefit from the course. This could include workers from social care, family support, employment support, vocational training, criminal justice, probation, education, housing support, general health care and mental health services.

Course Content:
Cannabis use in Ireland: prevalence figures, myths about cannabis Current issues around cannabis use: including new forms of cannabis and changing legislative situation

Learning Outcomes:
The training aims to provide; An understanding of the impact of cannabis use within Ireland Harm reduction strategies to use with clients. An increased knowledge of current issues around Cannabis use including legal status

Trainer Profile:
Neil Wilson, Education Support Worker employed by AIDS West, a post funded by the Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force. Neil provides education and training to groups and agencies in Galway City and County. Neil also delivers holistic drug and alcohol education/prevention programmes to parents, professionals, organisation, young people, ethnic minorities, at-risk groups and communities where a need has been identified.

Certification/Accreditation:
A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded on completion of the training
