CRAFT is a behavioural programme that helps you reduce the stress of a family member's alcohol or drug use and to improve your own life areas such as physical, emotional, social and healthier lifestyle for example. When you are concerned about someone else's alcohol or drug use it can take a lot of your time and energy and the CRAFT programme can help your re-focus and re-build your own life again. When you make improvements in your life - this in turn can provide role modelling of healthy coping skills and you will also be in a better place to support your family member.
The programme works towards developing skills to interact with the person and to understand where they are at through tools such as positive communication, functional analysis, problem solving, positive reinforcement, natural consequences and motivating your family member to access treatment. This programme has resources and books for further reading in between sessions.
